About Sarah Lockett

My creativity as an artist is constantly energised by the outstanding natural beauty and wildness of the North Devon coast. Vivid memories of the constantly changing weather and the strength of the tides provided the inspiration for my first seascape, painted whilst living in Wisconsin, America. It was here that I started painting, inspired by a wonderful teacher and a talented group of supportive, professional female artists from whom I learnt so much.

I returned to the UK in 2007 and focused on becoming a semi-professional artist rather than returning to my career as a magazine journalist in London. I have been painting and exhibiting here ever since, after making the permanent move to North Devon in 2010.

In 2015 I returned briefly to the USA after being invited to exhibit at the Agora Gallery, New York.

Recently, I have been teaching Impressionist seascape classes and taking a wide range of commissions.

I love the challenge of finding the soul of a particular sea or landscape. It is a privilege to be asked to capture a personal connection to a specific place.

My incentive in all my work is to try and capture a feeling or attachment with the vastness of sea and sky, in the hope that others may make that same connection.
